I’ve been thinking a lot about how to save money, to stop hoarding things I don’t need, and trying to live a more minimalist lifestyle. I’m not trying to BE a minimalist, I’m just trying to buy less ~stuff~ so that I can save money. Realistically, I love clothes and shoes too much to limit myself to only ONE pair of boots.
I’ve really started thinking about this ever since I’ve moved to Italy. When I moved here, one of the first things I noticed was the minimal amounts of ~stuff~ they have in their house. You know, like extra things we buy that we really don’t need or use. I thought about my apartment at school and how much ~stuff~ I have. I also thought about how much ~stuff~ I brought with me to Italy, and how I might not have needed all of these suitcases if I didn’t bring so much ~stuff~.
So, I’m going to work on clearing out the ~stuff~ and saving my money.
I’ve been keeping a list in my journal titled “What I Need to Stop Buying”. Now, a lot of the things on this list seem unnecessary to most people, but I think are seen as more of a treat-yourself-purchase. I think I treat myself too much, which is why I started making this list.
I’m not saying YOU should stop buying these things. I’m just suggesting you think twice about what you have or what you are purchasing, and think “Do I really need this?” Start thinking, “How much money can I save per month if I DON’T buy this right now?” Make a list!
Here’s what my super, random list looks like so far:
What I Need to Stop Buying
- face masks
- coffee to-go
- makeup (mostly eyeshadow)
- excessive amounts of pillows
- extra pairs of sunglasses
- make up brushes
- multiple phone cases
These things are just not worth buying to me. Like, a face mask costs $3-5 and is used for fifteen minutes to probably not do anything to your skin. Coffee to-go isn’t worth buying if you basically have a coffee shop in your house (like me). Makeup is on this list because I haven’t been wearing makeup lately. Excessive amounts of pillows because pillows are EXPENSIVE. And I have plenty. Extra pairs of sunglasses are a waste to spend money on when I already hate wearing them…so why would I buy another I’m not going to like wearing. Make up brushes are on here because those are also EXPENSIVE. Phone cases are usually expensive, and if the one I have is in good condition, no need to waste money on a new one.
Okay. I think my money saving rant is done. For now.
