I went up to northern Italy with my au pair family this past week. We were up in the mountains the entire time. It was nice to take a break from the 90 degree weather and get some fresh air! Northern Italy is populated by a lot of Germans, and the culture is more similar to Germany as well. A lot of signs are written in German and there are typical German dishes everywhere you go! There are even apple trees E V E R Y W H E R E. The typical sweet treat up north is Strudel, which is made with raisins, pine nuts and locally grown apples.
